Wheelchair Basketball Teams and Technical Officials Confirmed for Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games

IWBF Americas is pleased to confirm that all the National Paralympic Committees with teams eligible to compete in Santiago 2023 have accepted their spots.

The wheelchair basketball competition will take place from November 18 – 25, 2023.

The women’s division will have Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, USA and host Chile competing for the one spot at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. In addition, the second placed team will earn a spot at the repechage in Japan in April where the top four teams will advance to the Paralympics.

In the men’s division Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Puerto Rico, USA, Venezuela and host Chile will compete for the one spot at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. In addition, the second and third placed teams will earn a spot at the repechage to be held in France in April where the top four teams will advance to the Paralympics.

The draw for the groups took place Thursday August 17 in Santiago with the following results:

In women’s competition Group A will consist of Brazil, Canada, El Salvador and Colombia. Group B will have Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and the United States of America.

In the men’s division Group A will consist of Argentina, Canada, Chile and Venezuela. Group B will have Brazil, Colombia, Puerto Rico and the United States of America.

IWBF Americas also confirmed the technical officials that will be present in Santiago. Technical Delegate Juan Magallanes (MEX) will be supported by Assistant Technical Delegate Maureen Orchard (CAN) and Tournament Technical Committee Members Ricardo De Souza BRA) and Stephanie Gagne (GBR).

Chief classifier Anne Lachance will be joined by Karen Ferguson (CAN), Jayne Chilutti (USA), Kenny Mackay (GBR), Doug Garner (USA),Blanca Ramirez (COL) and Gustavo Pazinato (BRA).

The Game Commissioners are Gibran Zamitiz (MEX), Axel Coll (PUR), and Hugo Begazo (PER). The referee supervisors are Jorge Bestilleiro (ARG), Sergio Giordano (CAN) and Jon Burford (USA).

The referees at the games will be Mati Quintana (ARG), Cristian Colombatti (ARG), Joao Fortes (BRA), Gustavo Mathias (BRA), Hugo De la Riva (BOL), Sebastien Gautier (CAN), Ardavan Eizadirad (CAN), Enzo Fernandez (CHI), Paula Castro (CHI), Jose Mauricio Huertas (COL), Mauricio Gamez (CRC), Benjamin Ovando (GUA), Juan Hernandez (MEX), Diego Borghini (URU), Darrell Hargreaves (USA), Rocco La Macchia (USA).
