Wisconsin-Whitewater Defeats Arizona, 74-67, to Win 2024 NWBA Men’s Intercollegiate Division National Championship

MARSHALL, MN. – The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater defeated the University of Arizona, 74-67, to win the 2024 NWBA Men’s Intercollegiate Division National Championship at Southwest Minnesota State University.

In a contest that featured 16 ties and 15 lead changes, the Warhawks outlasted the Wildcats to claim their first national title since 2016 and 14th in program history.

Thomas Oberst led the way for Wisconsin-Whitewater, nearly producing a triple-double with 29 points, 16 rebounds, nine assists and two steals. For his efforts, he was named the championship’s Most Valuable Player.

It was a strong day for the Oberst family, as teammate and brother Evan Oberst finished with 23 points, five rebounds and five assists in the victory.

In a one-point game (61-60) with 4:45 remaining to play in the second half, Wisconsin-Whitewater pulled away with a 12-2 run over the final minutes to secure the victory and claim collegiate supremacy for the first time in eight years.

AJ Fitzpatrick chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Talen Jourdan contributed eight points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals in the win.

Arizona was led by 23 points from Tyrone Griner. Ben Thornton finished with 12 points (6-6 FG), while Blaise Mutware added 13 points and Justyn Newman recorded 12.
