COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO – The Junior Division Ranking Committee has announced the 2017-18 February Rankings for Junior Varsity and Junior Prep Divisions. The TIRR Memorial Hermann Houston Junior Hotwheels have remained the No. 1 ranked team for the Junior Varsity Division all season. The Minnesota Rolling Rowdies secure the No. 1 ranked team in Junior Prep Division in back-to-back months.
The TIRR Memorial Hermann Houston Junior Hotwheels remain in the top position in Junior Varsity Division and undefeated on the season with a 24-0 record. The Jr. Hotwheels' month of January was highlighted by securing victories over all teams ranked No. 2 to 5 in Junior Varsity and being crowned tournament champions of the Big Peach Slam.
The No. 2 BlazeSports Jr. Hawks faced off against the No. 3 RHI Racers for the second time this season at the Big Peach Slam. The Jr. Hawks topped the Racers in this semifinal matchup, 64-46. The WASA Jr. Bucks remain at the No. 4 spot in the Junior Varsity Division rankings. The Minnesota Jr. Rolling Timberwolves jump to No. 5 after taking a 3-2 lead on the season series with No. 6 Nebraska Red Dawgs in Junior Varsity Division February Rankings.
The Minnesota Rolling Rowdies finish play in the month of January holding on to the No. 1 spot in the Junior Prep Division. The Rowdies' remain undefeated (14-0) by sneaking out a two point victory over the No. 2 LWSRA Rollin' Hawks, 33-31 at the NWBA Midwest Junior Invitational Tournament in Whitewater, WI.
Teams ranked No. 3 to No. 8 from the Junior Prep January Rankings all slide up one spot in the month of February. Teams No. 2 to 7 for Junior Prep in February are as follows: LWSRA Rolling Hawks, Charlotte Rollin’ Hornets Prep-Purple, Lakeshore Sharks, Fairfax Falcons, OKC Wheels of Thunder - Prep (previously Oklahoma Blaze) and Bennett Blazers Prep.
The top 16 ranked teams for Varsity will earn an invite to play in the National Junior Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (NJWBT) at the 2018 National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (NWBT) presented by ABC medical in Louisville, Kentucky, April 12-15, 2018. Teams ranked 17-32 will receive an invite to participate in the National Junior Invitational Tournament at the 2017 NWBT. If a team does not accept their bid for post season play, invitations will be sent to the next team, in order of ranking, until both tournaments are filled. The top 16 ranked teams from Prep are initially offered an invitation to participant in the National Prep Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (NPWBT) at the 2018 NWBT. After confirming the intent to attend of the top 16 teams an invitation is sent to the remaining teams to fill all 16 slots for the NPWBT.
Teams noted with an asterisk (*) are already qualified for the 2018 NWBT with secured bid.”
